Engel Karton + Papier GmbH is researching a method for producing seaweed paper.
The state of Schleswig-Holstein has allocated funds to Engel Karton + Papier GmbH for a project that aims to research how paper can be produced from seaweed. This research project has the potential to both alleviate environmental pressures and promote the sustainable use of raw materials.
Every year, a large amount of seaweed washes up on the shores of the German Baltic Sea. These biological deposits are removed by cleaning crews and usually end up in the trash. The state government of Schleswig-Holstein has now decided to find a meaningful use for this waste product.
Engel Karton + Papier GmbH is tasked with developing a method to mix industrially cleaned seaweed with recycled paper to create new paper. This innovative method could not only reduce waste but also open up a new, eco-friendly source of raw materials.
Engel Karton + Papier GmbH expressed its gratitude to the state government of Schleswig-Holstein for the trust placed in them. “We are very thankful for the opportunity to work on this pioneering project,” said a company spokesperson. “This endeavor allows us to demonstrate our expertise in sustainable paper production and make a valuable contribution to environmental protection.”
With this project, Schleswig-Holstein could take a leading role in the sustainable use of natural resources and set an example for other regions and countries. Engel Karton + Papier GmbH is proud to be part of this eco-friendly initiative and looks forward to collaborating with the state government and other partners.
